Overview

As part of Tesco’s national brand rollout, this retail asset required a comprehensive exterior modernisation. The objective was to align the building envelope with Tesco’s updated corporate identity, transitioning from a dated aesthetic to a sharp, two-tone grey specification. The scope encompassed the main store elevations, curtain walling, and ancillary assets including the perimeter fencing and ‘Click & Collect’ infrastructure.

Approach

We executed a phased refurbishment programme designed to deliver a uniform finish across diverse substrates.

Substrate Remediation: Prior to coating, our teams conducted extensive preparation on degraded cladding panels. Surfaces were mechanically abraded and repaired to ensure optimal adhesion and a smooth foundation.

Specification: We applied a dual-colour scheme: a Light Grey for the primary elevations to provide a clean backdrop, and a contrasting Dark Grey for the low-level banding, canopies, and curtain walling to add architectural definition.

Site-Wide Integration: To ensure a cohesive visual identity, we extended the spraying scope to external assets (fencing and loading bays), unifying the entire site under the new brand standard.

Challenges

Trading Continuity: The absolute priority was maintaining full store operations. We implemented strict Health & Safety protocols to segregate work zones from the public, ensuring zero disruption to customer footfall or staff activities.

Restricted Access: The rear elevations presented significant logistical hurdles. We utilized specialist access equipment and detailed lift planning to safely reach and treat these confined areas.

Substrate Condition: The poor condition of the original panels required a more intensive preparation phase than standard, critical for guaranteeing the warranty and longevity of the final finish.

Result

The project was delivered to a flawless factory standard, successfully revitalizing the asset in line with Tesco’s new design language. By utilizing out-of-hours scheduling (nights and weekends) and maintaining close coordination with site management, we achieved a complete transformation of the building envelope with zero trading downtime—protecting the client’s revenue while enhancing their brand presence.
