Overview

Following the acquisition of the former Lok’nStore facility in Gillingham, Shurgard required a comprehensive external rebranding. The objective was to execute a total colour change of the building envelope, transforming the existing orange cladding to Shurgard’s signature corporate Red to ensure immediate visual alignment with their national portfolio.

Approach

Our team implemented a sequenced refurbishment plan to ensure a flawless finish.

Substrate Preparation: We collaborated directly with signage contractors to strip existing branding, followed by remedial filling and sanding of old fixing holes to restore the cladding’s surface integrity.

Protection: Extensive masking protocols were deployed to protect the large-format glazing and adjacent surfaces from overspray.

Application: We applied a high-performance commercial coating system, colour-matched specifically to Shurgard’s brand requirements, ensuring uniform coverage and long-term colour retention.

Challenges

Multi-Contractor Logistics: The project required tight coordination with external signage teams to ensure the facade was stripped, prepared, sprayed, and re-branded without delays.

Overspray Risk: The building features significant glazing elements, requiring precision masking and controlled spray application to prevent damage to the glass.

Operational Continuity: As a live self-storage facility, it was imperative that our works caused zero obstruction to customer access or daily business operations.

Result

The project was delivered on schedule and strictly within budget. The facility now boasts a bold, factory-standard finish that accurately reflects Shurgard’s brand identity. By effectively managing the critical path between signage removal and re-spraying, we delivered a seamless transformation with minimal disruption to the client’s revenue stream.
