Commercial Coating Solutions was commissioned by SCA Self Storage, a reputable provider with a strong presence across Yorkshire and the North East. Following their expansion in 2024, SCA required a comprehensive branding package for their new facility in Rotherham. The objective was to establish an immediate, high-impact visual identity that resonated with their established ethos, ensuring the new site aligned seamlessly with their corporate portfolio while adhering to strict quality and cost-efficiency targets.
Approach
We executed a technical coating strategy designed to translate SCA’s brand identity into the building’s architecture.
Geometric Precision: To achieve the client’s specific design requirements, we utilised laser-levelling technology. This ensured absolute accuracy when applying the multi-tonal blocks of colour, guaranteeing sharp, clean lines that define the building’s corners.
Custom Colour Specification: We applied a complex colour scheme consisting of three distinct shades of green to the building’s corners, anchored by a continuous band of darker green wrapping around the entire perimeter. This layered application created a striking visual depth and reinforced the brand’s signature aesthetic.
Consultative Planning: Prior to mobilisation, we engaged in detailed consultations with the client to define the exact technical requirements, ensuring the finish would be durable, weather-resistant, and visually consistent with SCA’s other sites in Ripon, Sheffield, and Sunderland.
Challenges
The project demanded high-precision application within a challenging environmental context.
Adverse Weather Conditions: The works were carried out during a period of cold temperatures and high winds. These conditions can compromise coating adhesion and cure times; our team had to monitor substrate temperatures constantly and adapt application windows to ensure a flawless, durable finish.
Architectural Accuracy: Applying large-scale geometric blocks of colour on industrial cladding requires exacting standards. Any deviation in the lines would be instantly visible. Our reliance on laser guidance was critical to overcoming the difficulty of maintaining straight, level lines across long elevations in windy conditions.
